Straining at the Oars is a good book for newer pastors who would like to make a long-term commitment to full-time ministry. This book will help them grow into a position.
Dana Fearon is a former pastor in the Presbyterian Church in America and the book is largely based on his experiences in a church leadership position. There are 21 case studies from different areas of ministry. Chapters 2 and 3 are on public and private prayer. Church staffing issues can be challenging, and is a topic that’s addressed in chapter 20. There are discussion questions at the end of every chapter. This is good resource for older pastors who are mentoring younger pastors.
