King David is one of the most celebrated biblical figures, yet he was deeply human — human in that he failed, not just once but repeatedly. He lived with scandal and murder, the breakdown of his own family, hypocrisy, deceit and guilt. However, he also was righteous; he was, after all, a man after God’s own heart. At one point, though, he had to be forced to own up to the reality he helped create; and the prophet Nathan is credited with confronting him to help awaken him to these truths.
