Gregory was one of the famous Cappadocian theologians, family friend of Basil of Caesarea, Gregory of Nyssa, and their sister, Macrina. Gregory served as Bishop of Constantinople from A.D. 379 to 381, and presided over the Council of Constantinople in the year A.D. 381 (the year this sermon was preached), which re-affirmed the Creed of Nicaea, as well as expanding it to clarify the church’s doctrine of the deity of the Holy Spirit, affirming the Spirit as fully God, who receives worship together...

Is religion relevant? Many people apparently do not think so. They don’t believe religion is necessary because they are convinced that all anyone really needs in life can be obtained through science and technology. For them, any attention given to spiritual matters is a waste of time.

In his book The Pursuit of God, A.W. Tozer made the following observation: "It is doubtful whether God can bless a man greatly until He has hurt him deeply." To put it another way, God cannot do much with people who have not passed through a time of suffering, sickness, sacrifice or struggle. How can we be a blessing to people who are going through the hardships of life if we ourselves somehow have been exempted from such hardships?

This ordeal left him blind in one eye so he could not take part in contact sports. Miraculously he suffered no brain damage and was fearfully aware that his abductor was still at large. He struggled with his appearance, but at the tender of age of 13 he began to change. He realized his injuries could have been much worse—he could have died. He also realized he could not stay angry forever. He decided to turn his back on animosity, revenge and self-pity forever.

The oceans, forests, plains, rivers, lakes—all of that—it all belongs to God. You heard the old hymn earlier, "This Is My Father's World." In the early chapters of Genesis, God gives instructions as to how we're supposed to take care of this planet. There are really four key instructions that He delivered. He said He wanted us to subdue it, rule over it, work it and take care of it.
