    William Willimon
    (November 2011)
[Christianity is a thoroughly eschatological faith, no matter what some contemporary would-be retrievers of the "historical Jesus" may claim. Yet eschatology always has been a tough topic for preachers. Advent is the supremely eschatological, apocalyptic season. Thus, the following is my attempt to preach eschatology in this sermon preached at in a Duke chapel sermon.]

Is religion relevant? Many people apparently do not think so. They don’t believe religion is necessary because they are convinced that all anyone really needs in life can be obtained through science and technology. For them, any attention given to spiritual matters is a waste of time.

Good lepers are those who are healed and never forget the disease they once had. They remember how good clean feels. Bad lepers, on the other hand, are those who are healed and go on acting as if they never had the disease. This Thanksgiving sermon encourages us to model our lives after the leper who returned to give thanks.

What did the angels mean when they spoke of "peace on earth?" In this Christmas sermon, Rev. McMickle shares three characteristics of peace: that it can only come from God, that it cannot be experienced by a single person or by a certain group of persons if, at the same time, it is being denied or withheld from others, and that it must begin with me!
    • Luke 8:40-56

    Christian George

It is often far better to be held by God than to be healed by Him.
    • Luke 13:10-21

    David O. Dykes

Many of you may be "bent out of shape" today for a variety of reasons. If you will pay attention to Jesus today, He can set you free.

    Marvin A. McMickle
    (July 2008)
The most important decision a person can make is to be certain he has a good life assurance policy.
