Team Members

How many of you are on a team? There are lots of good things about being on a team. When you are on a team, everyone tries to encourage everyone else. People are always saying things like "Way to go! You did great!"
When you are on a team, you don't have to be good at everything. There are different positions for different skills. Everyone doesn't have to do the same thing. When you are on a team, winning feels really good, because you celebrate together. Losing does not feel that bad, because you are in it together. You are a team.
A church is like a really great team. Everyone tries to encourage everyone else. We watch out for each other. We say things like "Way to go! You did great!" In a church you don't have to be good at everything. People have different talents. Some people teach. Some invite others to their homes. Some have money to give. Some just make those around them feel better.
One of the best things about being a church is that when something good happens, you celebrate together. And when something bad happens, it does not feel quite as bad, because you are not alone. We are a team. (Brett Younger, College Heights Baptist Church, Manhattan, KS)
Spiritual Power
(An object lesson for children using various batteries)
Who can tell me what this is? It is a battery like you use in a flashlight. What about these? Are these batteries? That's right. Here is a watch battery, this is a 9-volt radio battery, and this is a square battery from my laptop computer.
What do you use batteries for? Sure, they provide energy, or power, to make things work. Sometimes people use different things to give them power. Some people use drugs to give them more energy, or to stay awake longer, or to become stronger athletes. Some people use alcohol to make them feel stronger. These things are not good. In fact, they are very bad for our bodies. But God has provided ways for people to have real power that makes us strong.
The Bible says that God has given us power through the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is God living in our lives (Acts 1:9). Paul wrote that knowing Jesus gave him power over his physical illness (2 Cor. 12:9). And the writer of the book of Hebrews wrote that the Word of God is powerful (Heb. 1:3, 4:12).
When you feel you need energy, or power, remember these three ways God makes us strong: He allows us to know Jesus, He lives in us through the Holy Spirit, and He has given us His word through the Bible. These are spiritual batteries! (Barry J. Beanies, Pastor, First Baptist Church, Jefferson, TX)
