Text: 2 Corinthians 4:6 (NIV)
Object: Lantern or lighted candle
Song: “Heavenly Sunlight”
Hello boys and
girls. I’m glad to see you today. In my hands I’m holding a lantern
(or candle). There is a story about a man who was lost in a cave and
the only light he had was a lantern. Trying to find his way out of the
darkness, he realized the lantern’s light would only go about 4-feet
ahead of him. He wondered to himself “how can I ever reach the
opening of this cave with only a light that goes such a short
distance?” Making his way to the sunlight that pierced the darkness,
he realized that as he walked, the light of the lantern moved also.
Each step lighted another, and another, until he reached safety.
When
we are troubled we have God as our guide to light our steps. We never
have to walk life alone. God stays ahead and leads us out of the
darkness and into the sunlight of His love.
The
Bible says in 2 Corinthians 4:6, “For God, who said, ‘Let light shine
out of darkness, made his light shine in our hearts to give us the
light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ’.”
Prayer:
Dear Jesus, we ask that these precious children will always depend on
your light to guide them throughout life. Amen.
[Before
we sing “Heavenly Sunlight” let us listen to the words of this song.
The author speaks of the love of Jesus leading us over the mountains
during good times and into the valley during times when we think like
isn’t so good. But all through life, we know our Lord is with us.
Lead the congregation in singing “Heavenly Sunlight” as children
return to their seats.]
