Greed
Greed
In J. K. Rowling's now famous novel Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone there
is a warning engraved on the doors of the bank:
Enter stranger, but take heed
Of what awaits the sin of greed
For those who take, but do not earn
Must pay most dearly in their turn.
It is good advice for anyone anytime, but it is especially good advice in a
time when so many want to enjoy the fruits of labor but do not want to do the
work that is necessary to earn them. Of course, the Bible is filled with
warnings against greed in Old Testament and New. We do well to heed them.
