Caring, Salvation

Maurice Stokes was voted into the basketball Hall of Fame in 2004, 30 years after his death. Stokes’ promising career was cut short when he was paralyzed during the final game of the 1958 season. Jack Twyman, who also is a member of the Basketball Hall of Fame, showed a remarkable love for his friend. When Stokes could not get any long-term medical help or care, Twyman actually adopted him. Twyman took care of him the rest of his life. In addition, the effort to raise money for Stokes became an annual effort to care for other ill or injured players.

We, too, have been adopted. God saw us in our helpless state and made it possible for us to be adopted into His family.
