And They Said It Wouldn't Last!
By Michael Duduit
With this issue, Preaching begins its tenth year. Since most publications never see their fifth birthday, we're particularly proud to be looking at ten. Besides, I figure the more attention I pay to Preaching's birthday, the less people will pay to mine (I turn 40 this summer, for those who wish to send sympathy cards).

Since hundreds of magazines come and go each year -- in fact, some should be gone before they ever see the light of day -- I've been trying to analyze what has allowed Preaching to make it this far.

And in that careful, scientific approach so noted in the 90's, I came up with: The Top 10 Reasons Preaching Has Lasted for 10 Years. (Sorry, Dave.)

Number 10: We are so ecologically conscious -- we print on both sides of the paper!

Number 9: Unlike the NFL, we refuse to switch to FOX.

Number 8: We never even met Gennifer Flowers or Paula Jones.

Number 7: We moved the office to Louisville, and the bill collectors haven't caught on yet.

Number 6: Those late night pizza delivery guys.

Number 5: Helpful design suggestions by Stephen Spielberg (though we did pass on his idea for a theme issue on "Preaching in Jurrasic Park").

Number 4: Most of the checks clear.

Number 3: When better sermons are preached, we print 'em.

Number 2: The editor only uses one page per issue to publish this kind of foolishness.

And the number one reason Preaching has survived and prospered for 10 years:

Number 1: The greatest readers in the world!

Thanks for being part of our first decade. And hang around -- it's bound to get better!
